Time triple modular redundancy, also known as TTMR, is a patented single event upset mitigation technique that detects and corrects errors in a computer or microprocessor. TTMR allows the use of very long instruction word (VLIW) style microprocessors in space or other applications where external sources, such as radiation, would cause an elevated rate of errors. In computing, triple modular redundancy, sometimes called triple-mode redundancy, (TMR) is a fault-tolerant form of N-modular redundancy, in which three systems perform a process and that result is processed by a majority-voting system to produce a single any one of the three systems fails, the other two systems can correct and mask the fault.
Redundancy sometimes produces less, instead of greater reliability – it creates a more complex system which is prone to various issues, it may lead to human neglect of duty, and may lead to higher production demands which by overstressing the system may make it less safe. Triple Modular Redundancy, a proper noun, is a based on proven statistics and stringent mathematics. There are similar sounding terms like, tri- or triple- redundant, used in industry to describe other STS products – but they simply do not yield the same, high level of reliability.
Triple Modular Redundancy verification via heuristic netlist analysis Giovanni Beltrame Polytechnique Montreal, Montr´ eal, Qu´ ebec, Canada´ ABSTRACT Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) is a common technique to protect memory elements for digital processing systems subject to radiation effects (such as in space, high-altitude, or near nuclear. Approximate Triple Modular Redundancy has been proposed in the literature to overcome the area overhead issue of Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR). The outcome of TMR/Approximate TMR modules serves as the voter input to produce the final output of a system. Because the working principle of Approximate TMR conditionally allows one of the approximate modules to differ from the original Cited by: 1.

In computing, triple modular redundancy, sometimes called triple-mode redundancy, (TMR) is a fault-tolerant form of N-modular redundancy, in which three systems perform a process and that result is processed by a majority-voting system to produce a single output.
If any one of the three systems fails, the other two systems can correct and mask the fault. This document discusses the use of Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) for the protection of combinatorial and sequential logic in reprogrammable logic devices.
A VHDL approach has been developed for automatic TMR insertion and a demonstration design has been developed. The approach is called “Functional Triple Modular Redundancy (FTMR)”.File Size: KB. A hypothetical triple-modular redundant computer is subjected to a Monte Carlo program on the IBMwhich simulates component failures.
Reliability is thereby determined and compared with reliability obtained by analytical calculations based on simplifying by: While dual redundant is the simplest redundant form for reliable systems, triple modular redundancy is the most used one.
In the proposed architecture, an onboard computer is designed based on triple modular redundancy (TMR). Figure 2. Triple Modular Redundant configuration As it can be seen in Figure 2, The redundancy ofAuthor: Ghasem Kahe.
Triple redundancy with perject voting circuits To explain triple-modular redundancy, it is first neces- sary to explain the concept of triple redundancy as originally envisaged by Von Neumann.’ The concept is illustrated in Fig.

The hardened design has % more area than the original circuit. A technique known as Se-lective Triple Modular Redundancy (STMR) is proposed in that employs partial redundancy to introduce SEU im-munity.
The STMR technique operates on a gate-level cir. Triple modular redundancy (TMR) is compared with 5‐level modular redundancy. Voter circuits, redundant voters, imperfect voters, and comparisons with parallel and standby schemes are included.
Markov models and Laplace transform solutions are used for repairable systems. Triple Modular Redundancy Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) uses three functionally equivalent units to provide redundant backup. This approach is very common in aerospace applications where the cost of failure is extremely high.

processor can be implemented in a triple-redundant voting scheme. The method is often referred to as Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR). A MicroBlaze TMR subsystem is of Fault Tolerant - Fail Safe (FT-FS) type, which means that it continues to work without degradation after the first failure (FT) and will detect a second failure (FS).File Size: 2MB.
A new scheme for implementing highly reliable digital systems is proposed. The method has a circuitry overhead which is comparable to that of the triple modular redundancy (TMR) scheme, although it is shown to have a reliability, and more importantly a mean time to failure, improvement well beyond that expected from the standard TMR by: 7.
Localized Triple Modular redundancy (LTMR) Redundant Data Path: Distributed TMR (DTMR) or Global TMR (GTMR = XTMR) But it’s not this easy!!!!. TMR Schemes are differentiated by how the triplication is performed and where the voters are placed: To be presented by Melanie Berg at the Microelectronics Reliability & Qualification Working.
Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) is a common technique to protect memory elements for digital processing systems subject to radiation effects (such as in space, high-altitude, or near nuclear sources). This paper presents an approach to verify the correct implementation of TMR for the memory elements of a given netlist (i.e., a digital circuit specification) using heuristic analysis.
Logic equation of fault indication signal that monitors weak consensus at redundant modules can be expressed as, Alarm =(y1 +y2 +y3).(y1 +y2 +y3) (2) TMR masks effect of faults before spreading trough the rest of system.

The first part, section 2 presents N modular redundancy. Its Reliability and failure rates are also reviewed. Triple modular redundancy (TMR) is presented in section 3. The mathematical model of a File Size: KB. T: For the highest level of integrity and availability, the T Triple Modular Redundant system features voting with triple, dual or common I/O, as required.
D: The D HICS is built on the same advanced technology as T, for a dual-redundant solution. The voting solution uses advanced diagnostics to assist in results. One commonly used technique within programmable logic designs for such applications is that of Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR).
At the simplest level, TMR implements three identical designs and takes a majority vote on the outputs. This voting mitigates for a single failure of one implementation.

Lyons and W. Vanderkulk, “ The Use of Triple - Modular Redundancy to.In reliability engineering, dual modular redundancy (DMR) is when components of a system are duplicated, providing redundancy in case one should fail.
It is particularly applied to systems where the duplicated components work in parallel, particularly in fault-tolerant computer systems.A typical example is a complex computer system which has duplicated nodes, so that should one node fail.
